Coffee, Culture, and Community – All Are Welcome!
Jewish culture is served up once a month at our informal coffee cafe. Each of us brings along a dessert, and Rabbi Mark grinds and brews up the evening’s coffee. You never know which genre of Jewish music may be playing, but it is guaranteed to be enjoyable. While we are religious about our coffee, this evening is a cup full of Jewish culture with the nice finish of havdallah (optional).
Saturday, February 10, 7:30-9:30pm
Come on out and sing along, as we all participate in preserving our rich, diverse and deeply satisfying musical heritage.
The Jewish Folk Chorus has been in existence since 1926. Their vast repertoire of Jewish music includes songs in Yiddish, Hebrew, Ladino and Russian. The chorus also stays true to our roots in the labor movement by preserving and performing works from their library of Yiddish labor songs. The origins of the Chorus are rooted in the labor movement, and a labor and/or protest song to the repertoire gets added in each season. Through its 92-year existence, the Chorus has sung many interesting and difficult Jewish musical works, without forgetting the simple folk music of our ancestors.
This event is free. All are welcome and donations welcome, as well.
