Judaism University is an innovative adult learning program at Congregation B'nai Emunah

Judaism University (JU) is Congregation B’nai Emunah’s innovative adult learning program. JU includes Classes, hevruta (one on one peer learning), tutorials and online learning designed to enhance our individual and collective abilities in the fields Jewish practice, spirituality, holidays, history,  traditions and the wisdom of our sages, as well as Jewish diversity;,interfaith studies and inter-religious understanding;], tzedakah (charity) and tikkun olam (helping to make the wold a better place).

Judaism University was founded by our former Rabbi Mark Melamut. Classes are taught by Rabbi Pam Frydman and Sharon Bleviss of Congregation B’nai Emunah, as well as Rabbi Danny Gottlieb of Congregation Beth Israel- Judea; Rabbi Katie Mizrahi of Or Shalom Shalom Jewish Community; Rabbi Shana Chandler-Leon of Congregation Ner Tamid and guest teachers.

Weekly Torah Study

Every Shabbat Afternoon from 1:20 to 2:50 PM at B’nai Emunah taught by Rabbi Pam . For both scholars and beginners. Hebrew not required. Open to members and non-members. Free of charge.

Adult B’nai Mitzvah Class

Every Monday night from 6:00 to 7:30 pm beginning February 2019. Learn the how’s and why’s of the Shabbat morning service, gain competency in having an Aliyah, reading from the Torah and Haftarah and leading a prayer or two or as many as you have time to learn plus other skills as well. An Adult B’nai Mitzvah date will be chosen by those registered when the class begins. Taught by Rabbi Pam. Free for members. Sliding scale for non-members.

Adult Hebrew Class

Taught by Sharon Bleviss on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. For beginners and those who have already begun studying Hebrew. Learn to read and write and some practical Hebrew words. $36 for six weeks.

Monthly Lunch n’ Learn

3rd Thursday of each month from 12:00 to 1:30 pm – Enjoy lunch and socializing followed by in-depth study with one of the Rabbis of the Southside Jewish Collaborative. Check the calendar or the BE Mail for details.

Monthly Making Meals in a Bag

3rd Thursday of each month at 1:30 PM – make sandwiches and bag lunches for a homeless outreach program.
