Judaism University is an innovative adult learning program at Congregation B'nai EmunahJudaism University (JU) is adult learning program and includes classes, hevruta (one on one learning), tutorials and independent study. 

Our Judaism University was founded by Rabbi Mark Melamut who served Congregation B’nai Emunah from August 2008 to June 2018. Beginning in August 2018, Rabbi Pam Frydman oversee our Judaism University.

Classes and workshop are taught by a variety of guest rabbis, academics and lay leaders, including B’nai Emunah’s Past President and Head Gabbai Sharon Bleviss, Rabbi Danny Gottlieb of Congregation Beth Israel Judea; Rabbi Katie Mizrahi of Or Shalom Shalom Jewish Community and Rabbi Shana Chandler-Leon of Congregation Ner Tamid.

Torah Study

Weekly on Shabbat Afternoon from 1:20 to 2:50 PM at B’nai Emunah. Led by Rabbi Pam. Torah Study is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome from scholars to beginners. Knowledge of Hebrew and previous study of Torah are not required.

Adult B’nai Mitzvah Class

Weekly on Monday nights from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Taught by Rabbi Pam. Learn the how’s and why’s of the Shabbat morning service, gain competency in having an Aliyah, reading from the Torah and Haftarah and leading a prayer or two or as many as you have time to learn plus other skills as well. The date for our next Adult B’nai Mitzvah will be announced soon. Class is free for members. Sliding scale for non-members.

Adult Hebrew Class

Select Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Taught by Sharon Bleviss. For beginners and those who have already begun studying Hebrew. Learn to read and write and some practical Hebrew words. Cost: $36 for six weeks.

Lunch n’ Learn

Third Thursday of each month from 12:00 to 1:30 pm. Enjoy lunch and socializing followed by in-depth study with one of the Rabbis of the Southside Jewish Collaborative. Check the calendar or the BE Mail for location and details.

Meal in a Bag – Tikkun Olam for the Most Needy. 

3rd Thursday of each month at 1:30 PM immediately following Lunch n’ Learn. Join us as we make sandwiches and pack them and other ingredients into bags for a homeless outreach program.
